My Comeback Story: Michael S.

Michael
Welcome back Mobility

I had (2) knee replacements 5 months apart. I heard from others what to expect, and I was apprehensive about going into this procedure, but replacement was needed to get my life back on track. My family doctor referred me to Dr. Tocks, and I can't thank him enough. Dr. Tocks is very personable and explained everything down to the last detail, and left me without any questions. He told me how it is without sugar coating it. With knowing exactly what to expect, it calmed my nerves, and I was ready to get it going. Surgery went as well as expected, maybe even better. Within an hour or two out of surgery, I was up and walking (both times). I was in the surgery center for a total of six hours from check-in to getting in the car to go home for rest and recovery. The first day isn't so bad being that the nerve block works pretty well and keeps the pain at bay. After the nerve block wears off, the pain starts to set in, although it is manageable if you take the meds as prescribed. The 2nd day can be a pain (literally), but after getting past that, it's not so bad. Physical therapy is the key to a successful outcome. You need to work hard to heal properly. After the 2nd replacement and healing, I am now able to run around with our active grandchildren playing sports and actually participating with them. Life is good. I am so thankful that I did this to get my active life back on track. Thank you, Dr. Tocks, the nurses, and OAL for all of your help!
