My Comeback Story: Judy C.
In 2007, I was in a car accident that required two surgeries on my foot over three years. During that time, I was unable to drive for 15 months. In addition, I had two root canals as a result of cracked teeth from the accident. I also had two meniscus surgeries performed by another practice. A few years later, I was told I needed a total knee replacement in my right knee. I was not prepared to have another surgery, mentally, physically, or emotionally. I decided to get a second opinion and consulted with Dr. Cooke. While he agreed that I needed a knee replacement, he respected my desire to avoid surgery and offered me a more conservative treatment. He worked with me and guided me in a treatment plan. Along with the PT, I also worked with a personal trainer who helped me strengthen both of my legs, as my left knee was also deteriorating. With conservative treatment and some hard work, I managed to avoid surgery for years and enjoy family time with our six grandchildren. In 2024, after an appointment with Dr. Cooke, I knew that knee replacements were needed, and I was ready. After weeks of pre-surgery PT, I had my left knee replaced as an outpatient. I was extremely blessed to have a very positive recovery due to the professionalism, skill, and compassion of Dr. Cooke and his team. I remember telling him that I did not expect a ‘perfect’ knee and if he did his best, I would do my part. I cannot be happier with my results and my ability to walk without pain in that knee. While I still need to get my right knee done, I am grateful for the improvement in my lifestyle since my first surgery.
