My Comeback Story: JoAnn G.

JoAnn
My 3 Joint Replacements

I have been a patient of Dr. Rodgers for more than 10 years. I started out being treated for bilateral knee osteoarthritis. I was also diagnosed with left shoulder osteoarthritis, and due to lack of mobility and increased pain, I had my left shoulder joint replacement done in 2022. I did my physical therapy at Spooky Nook with Orthopedic Associates of Lancaster, and after 12 weeks had a full range of motion and most of my strength back in my left arm. I had several years of injections in both of my knees, and in 2023 I had my right total knee replacement, and then in 2024, I had my left knee replacement. I did 7-8 weeks of physical therapy after each knee, and upon completion, had 135° flexion and full extension. If I could give anyone some advice, it would be to do your pre-op exercises that are in the packet you get from Orthopedic Associates of Lancaster.

Regarding my experience at Orthopedic Associates of Lancaster, I can’t say enough good things about Dr. John Rodgers. From the first time we met, he made it clear that I would be the one who would tell him when I was ready for surgery. He always answered all my questions, never made me feel rushed during office visits, and he is great with the needle when it comes to giving pain injections. He was there in recovery when I woke up after all three of my surgeries to reassure me that everything went well, and he called me the next morning to make sure I was doing okay. I continue to do my exercises 2 to 3 times a week, ride my bike daily, and do water aerobics twice a week. I read somewhere that a surgeon who works with his hands is a laborer, when he works with his brain, he is a craftsman, and when he works with his heart, he is an artist. I can assure you that Dr. Rodgers is an artist. I also need to give kudos to the physical therapy department at Spooky Nook. Both Mackenzie and Andrew were great. They encouraged me to push myself, and I really believe I would’ve never reached my goals without them. I continue to see Dr. Rodgers a couple of times a year to have my arthritic thumbs injected, and he recently injected my hands for two trigger fingers with great results.

Thank you, Orthopedic Associates of Lancaster, Dr. Rodgers, and the Spooky Nook physical therapy team for making my life so much better.
