COVID-19 Information for Patients

At Orthopedic Associates, there is nothing more important than the health and well-being of our patients, employees and community. During this time of uneasiness as coronavirus impacts our daily lives, we want to assure you that we remain committed to providing the high quality and compassionate care you have come to expect from OAL and North Pointe Surgery Center.
Policies and Guidelines for COVID-19
Visitor Guidelines
Due to COVID-19, OAL and NPSC visitors are no longer permitted to attend patient appointments.
• One visitor is allowed only if needed, such as a parent/guardian of a minor, friend/relative of an impaired person, or the caregiver of an elderly patient.
• No under the age of 18 is permitted to enter unless they are seeking care. 
• For legal and medical reasons, a visitor may not be an interpreter for the patient. Both OAL and NPSC have an interpreting phone line and two way phone sets to access interpreters trained in medical terminology. 
Entrance Screening
Anyone entering the building will be required to have a temperature screening. Answer as series of questions related to their general health and travel history which are all based on both the CDC and PA DOH Guidelines.
Face Covering
As of June 26, 2020 wearing a face mask is required to enter any business establishment. OAL and NPSC are required by PA State Mandates to follow all published guidance for businesses related to building and business safety. 

1. All patients and visitors are required to wear masks while on the premises. Mask must cover the individuals nose and mouth at all times. How to properly wear a mask

2. Individuals are asked to bring and wear their own masks. A mask will not provided for individuals if they arrive without one.

3. Individuals who cannot wear a mask due to a medical condition (including children under the age of 2 years per CDC guidance.) These individuals will be provided with a face shield that they are instructed to keep, clean and reuse when returning to either OAL and / or NPSC.

4. Individuals who refuse to wear either a mask or face shield will be not be allowed enter into the building. The screener will contact the treating physician to triage the cases in the following manner: The nature of the appointment and the need to reschedule at North Pointe in the Covid-19 Tent; Determination of the use of Telemedicine

5. OAL / NPSC will not require the individual to provide documentation of such medical condition.

6. While wearing a mask continue to practice social distancing.

7. Mask are meant to protect other people in case you are infected and not showing symptoms.

Social Distancing
1. Continue to practice social distancing.

2. All patients and visitors are to follow the signage throughout the building related to social distancing.

3. Stay as least six feet away from other patients, visitors, or staff not providing direct patient care.

4. Hand shaking is highly discouraged 
Hand Hygiene
1. Individuals are encouraged to wash their hands frequently with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.

2. If soap and water is not available, hand sanitizer with 60% or greater alcohol content should be used.

Symptoms of Coronavirus
Symptoms may appear 2-14 days after exposure to the virus. People with these symptoms may have COVID-19: 
• Cough
• Shortness of breath or difficulty breathing
• Fever
• Chills
• Muscle pain
• Sore throat
• New loss of taste or smell 
Look for emergency warning signs for COVID-19. If someone is showing any of these signs, seek emergency medical care immediately: 
• Trouble breathing
• Persistent pain or pressure in the chest
• New confusion
• Inability to wake or stay awake
• Bluish lips or face
